No, no, you got it right. We’re going to talk about web development in this article. “Why do you start from the hiring issues?” you ask. The answer is pretty simple your website will be your new employee. It’s hard for businesses to do without a website nowadays. It sells, attracts clients, generates traffic, and performs a lot of valuable tasks. But only when it is hired/ developed properly.

What Affects Web Development Price?

Usually, people associate websites just with design, but it’s only the tip of the iceberg. A great deal of work hides behind the colors and details’ placement issues. That’s why simply knowing web design prices is only a tiny part of the whole web development cost.

What’s more, websites fall into categories according to their size, so a small business website cost is lower than the price of a large e-Commerce website with hundreds of pages. So, besides the size, purpose matters too. Also, consider your web development team’s time to create the necessary features.

The smallest web dev team consists of 3 people — web developer, web designer, and quality assurance engineer. The price also includes the wages of these specialists.

To estimate the cost of making a website, we decided to go by two factors:

1) Size of the necessary website:

  • landing page/simple website — a one-page website can be built in 2 weeks;
  • medium website consisting of 30 pages takes about 1,5 months to develop;
  • a large website of 40+ pages with custom design and payment system can be created within 3,5 months.

When it comes to creativity, it’s hard to measure it and define the work scope. So, we provided a common breakdown. But when you roughly know the number of pages, the time required for developing them, and the hourly rates of web developers and web designers, you get a clue of web development pricing.

2) Location of a web development agency:

  • the USA;
  • Europe;
  • Asia;
  • Australia.

Due to the advantages of the digital era, you don’t necessarily need to hire local specialists; you can find developers in any part of the world. But it’s obvious that different regions have different web development rates.

Web Development Cost in the USA

Web development pricing in the US is among the highest in the world even though salaries vary greatly from region to region. The average cost of web design together with web development there ranges from $2,000 to ad infinitum — your budget is the only limit.

Simple website$2k–$23k

Medium website$26k–$52k

Large custom design website$53k–$1mln+

Web Development Cost in Europe

This is the most diverse region in our list. Its Western part has exorbitant web design cost while Eastern Europe has several times lower prices for web development. Let’s take a landing page, for example. The average price to build a website like this starts from $1,000 (two times lower than in the US!) and swells up to $6,500.

Simple website — $1k–$6,5k

Medium website$9,5k–$20k

Large custom design website$25k–$1mln+

Web Development Cost in Asia

What makes this region a popular outsourcing destination is low web development rates. In Asia, they are two times lower than in Europe and four times cheaper than in the US. But beware of cheapness, low prices can be the first sign that something is wrong with this web development agency.

Simple website$500–$3,000

Medium website$4,000–$8,000k

Large custom design website$10k–1mln+

medium website development price: Asia, Europe, Australia, USA

Web Development Cost in Australia

And back to reality from the Asian price pit — Australia keeps pace with the US. Local web dev agencies work for almost equal hourly rates as their American competitors. The price is also influenced by the region’s issue of tech skill shortage. Local businesses often choose nearshore web development services offered by Malaysia or the Philippines.

Simple website $2k–$23k

Medium website$20k–$47k

Large custom design website$48k–$1mln+

Web Development Rates in Different Countries

People are always curious about salaries, so the second part of the article is dedicated to the wages of web development team members. We will learn web developer hourly rates in different countries and their annual incomes to choose the best location for hiring employees.

USA

We compared the East and West Coast, and the difference in sums can rocket up to $15k annually.

Entry-level web developer in New York earns about $93,374. However, the closer you get to Silicon Valley, the higher the web developer rate. A beginner web developer from San Francisco receives around $100,000, while the salary of a senior web developer there is $131,825, and the sum can even reach the $150k threshold.

The services of a junior web designer will cost you $60,445 per year, while the experience and knowledge of a senior expert come at the price of $98,837.

It is worth mentioning that the US has a positive wages growth index — this year, wages have increased by 3%. Why is this important? If you have a long-term web development project, it means that you will have to significantly raise wages constantly in order to hire, motivate, and retain employees.

Europe

The thing is that the West of Europe suffers from skill shortage and lack of qualified IT specialists. Here you can read about the crisis in Spain. On the contrary, Eastern Europe boasts of a high level of tech education and a large number of graduates.

Scandinavian countries

An average web developer in Sweden earns about $50k annually. The Norwegian specialists work on the same terms, but the salary there goes up to $60k per year in some cases. Danish employers pay their workers $6,000–$7,500 ($72–$90k a year).

Web designer hourly rates are lower, so the average salary of Scandinavian web designers ranges from $4,000 to $4,600.

Ukraine

There are about 36,000 people living in Liechtenstein. The same number of students graduate from Ukrainian tech universities every year. About 1/10 (~3000) of them deal with the front-end, which is an important part of web development. Probably due to a large number of specialists, the web development cost here isn’t that high — $3,500–$6,000 per month. One can easily hire a Ukrainian web designer for $2,500–$4,000.

Asia

Lots of business giants as well as medium-sized companies prefer addressing local specialists because of the low cost of offshore web development here. Indeed, the cost of making a website drops drastically in the region compared to other countries.

Hiring a Chinese web developer would cost you $2,051 per month. Indian and Filipino web developers receive $300–$600 for the same period.

Australia

The annual income of a web designer in Australia is $60,204 and can reach the point of about $80,136. Depending on the skills and experience, the price of web developer services varies from $50,588 to $100,174 per year.
